Chonge is the eldest of the cubs born to Kishindo and her mate Kifo and roughly he is about half-way between Simba and Nuka in age, but because of his father’s family’s genetics it takes much longer for Chonge and his brothers to fully mature to the point they are considered full adults. Chonge was born the only one in the litter and a real surprise to his parents, who had not expected any cub to have survived all the ruthless battles Kishindo underwent and it made the whole pride excited. With the kingdom only just fully settled down to its new rule and the old enemies finally removed, it was only then deemed a suitable time for Kishindo and Kifo to really try and produce an heir, but life seemed to be on their side, except that Chonge was not only male but his jaw was a little oddly formed when he was born, causing him to constantly sneer when he looked at people.

For Kishindo there was a different problem, the rules of the Cannibal Lands had been changed so that no male could ever claim the title of king here, so Kishindo knew that her son would not be a true heir unless he produced a daughter before Kishindo died. But everyone loved him, he was fierce and aggressive like his father, but obedient to his mother and he made sure that any bullying amongst the cubs was dished out at his paws. For a while things were good for him, then Kishindo managed a pair of cubs and Chonge was happy again, playing with a little brother and sister and loving his chance to be their babysitter and still make his mother proud… but by the time he was a teenager, another cub came along with fangs but not as badly a formed mouth as he had and this cub his mother seemed to adore more than the other three. Chonge was a little jealous for a while, until he saw his baby brother, Ng’ata, getting picked on by the other cubs, specifically Shujaa and Kikatili about his teeth! Being the eldest, Chonge had their total respect and could tell that they were just taking out their jealousy, but it made Ng’ata very nasty. In fact, Shujaa ended up having more than a few unwanted bites from the hissing, spitting little cub and eventually Chonge decided to deal with the matter himself, especially when he could see his father did not like Ng’ata much at all!

Kifo had been very doting with the elder three and would be very doting to his later cubs too, but he did not like Ng’ata at all and kept calling him weak and small. Chonge was his father’s pride and joy, Chonge and his father wrestled often and had fun together chasing neighbouring males away and scaring everyone with their nasty teeth, bulky bodies and black manes… so when Kishindo was away, Chonge decided to take care of Ng’ata. He helped his little brother work off his aggressions, letting him beat him up and snarl and overall be as nasty as he wanted and he also made Ng’ata feel like he was wanted. As time went by and Chonge began to feel the urge growing to leave and start thinking about a rogue life, he would wander to the desert edge not far from the Outlands and take on any males he saw. Ng’ata followed, Shujaa soon followed and so did all the other young males. Chonge soon had a strong and powerful bachelor band at his side that could take over any territory, yet he wanted to be near so he could help his father and mother.

Time went by and girls began to be an object of interest, though all of them joked and laughed at Chonge, tormenting him about his teeth or just believing he was too damn rough to go near. No one ever seemed interested in him and because no one was interested in him, Ng’ata would not let any girl come near him even when he had a crowd of them at his heels. But there was a surprise in store as one group of visiting girls, which came with their apparent cousins Nuka, Vitani and Kovu, including a curious lioness with a funny jaw. He’s fascinated to see a female with an odd mouth and quickly he starts to follow this female, Miiba, about and ask her questions. He doesn’t mock the slight odd edge of her speech or indeed her looks, he’s just eager to learn about her. She’s a little taken aback by it, but everyone is happy to see him finally having a friend and Miiba feeling less bashful.

Time goes on and Chonge can’t stop thinking about Miiba, she was just so different and even didn’t care that he would rather wrestle with her than stare at the stars at night. He decides to go on a wander alone, needing time to expand his views and learn about other prides. His father and mother are both quite upset about the thought of him going, but it comes at a good time. When Chonge leaves there are developments at home with his aunt Zira being found and taken in and his adopted brother Mzuka starting to come up with interesting plans. Things are not steady at home and his brothers and male friends all go wandering to a place where they end up meeting the girls, but Chonge is not with them. He wanders for a while, never really meeting any other lioness as interesting as Miiba or as accepting. He also finds lots of kingdoms were so scared of the Cannibal Lands that they fear an invasion and try to appears him, but to him it just says they are all cowards. Chonge returns home with news for his mother about the other areas and she had news for him too, the time is right to go and meet the denizens of the Pride Lands after a broken peace from years before and Chonge agrees.

As they discuss the matter, his mother and father pull him aside to discuss diplomatic matters and what is going to happen. He is shocked that they plan to deal with the situation Zira is likely to cause in the only way that will work, old laws and total domination. The Cannibal land army moves on the Pride Lands, Simba is killed and Zira looks like she’s going to take over completely as the others try to deal with the matter. Only when Kishindo not only exiles Kovu but puts Zira in her place does it become apparent things are not as dangerous as they seem… yet. She leaves Chonge in charge until either Nala produces an heir that is chosen from her little with Simba or another lion is marked. Chonge is a good steward for the Pride Lands and judges fairly with Kiara’s help and keeps everyone protected as Vitani’s group complete their departures. Whilst there Chonge and Miiba start a proper romance and Kiara even marries them together and everything looks to be going reasonable until three unfortunate events take place…

Mzuka appears at dawn roaring on Pride Rock after learning ancient laws about white lions in the Pride Lands mythos, which means he is not only king but looked to as a child of the sun itself but he takes position from all. He then decides all marriages no longer exist and that includes Chonge’s, which is against Kishindo’s wishes and decisions. Mzuka cannot go against Kishindo because she alone will kill him if needed, but as Chonge goes on his journey to talk to his mother and deal with the problem, he meets Kovu. This time Kovu is completely strange, acting like everyone has betrayed him and when Chonge tries to explain what is going on, thinking he can get Kovu’s help against Mzuka, Kovu recalls the way he was exiled for looking a ‘dark lion’ and becomes so furious he attacks and kills Chonge. This only brings more trouble, for it helps solidify Mzuka’s control with his promise to his mother to gain vengeance for Chonge’s death….

So although the initial stuff for my Lion King is on my other account echosdusk this guy and all the others of the Cannibal Lands aside from Kishindo, Kucha, Mzuka and the ruling line will be put on here as this is where I intend to put the Chronicles of the Pride Lands’ story when I get down to re-writing it fully.

Anyway, originally Chonge was called Ng’ata and was just supposed to be a sharp toothed Barbary mix lion that was more handsome than he is here but I thought to change it. Ng’ata is like that but Chonge is bigger, bulkier and a bit more like his father with an aggressive attitude. Basically he was supposed to be scary but smart when he wanted to be and a good steward who as fair with everyone, but he paid the price for being what Kovu wanted to be.
